When hospitals lack the essentials

We are launching a fundraising campaign under the ‘Time to Help’ program to purchase a pharmaceutical refrigerator for the pediatric oncology ward at the National Centre for Maternal and Child Health in Bishkek. A new refrigerator will ensure safe storage of medicines, provide peace of mind for doctors and mothers, and maintain continuity of treatment.

The National Centre for Maternal and Child Health has two pediatric oncology wards—one for tumours and one for leukaemia—spanning two floors and serving dozens of young patients.

However, they currently have only one pharmaceutical fridge for all patients.

Oncology medicines require strict temperature control. If the storage conditions are not met, these medicines may lose their effectiveness or even become dangerous.

When there is only one fridge available:

- Medicines must be stored together, which can lead to mixing.

- Medicines are transported up and down floors and through corridors.

- The risk of compromising temperature control increases.

- This places an additional burden on medical staff and parents.

- For mothers, this situation adds yet another source of anxiety.

Mums in the oncology ward rarely ask for anything extra. Their requests often go beyond comfort; they focus on the safety of treatment. A pharmaceutical fridge provides peace of mind for doctors, mothers, and children alike. It instills order in an environment where decisions about lives are made every day.” — Dina Makarenko, Director of the “Sun of Hope” Foundation.

As part of the ‘Time to Help’ program, we are launching a fundraising campaign to purchase a pharmaceutical fridge for the pediatric oncology ward at the National Centre for Oncology and Haematology.

This initiative is not just for one child; it benefits everyone currently receiving treatment in the ward, as well as those who will be treated in the future. Sometimes, it is these seemingly simple items that play a critical role in ensuring stable and safe treatment.
