Cancer is a fierce battle, and a one-year-old child has no weapons other than our support. Retinoblastoma, an insidious and ruthless enemy, has tried to take away little Asima's sight and life completely. However, today we write to you with trembling voices and tears of relief: there has been a lull in this long fight.
Asima has just returned from Switzerland, where the doctors provided an update on her condition: it is stable. There are no new tumours, and in her right eye—the one we prayed for—there has been a small, almost miraculous improvement.
Unfortunately, Asima's left eye has very limited vision. The doctors have said that it is impossible to restore its sight. She can only distinguish bright light from a torch or lamp. As a result, she perceives the world through a narrow slit of light, clinging to it with her tiny hand.
Imagine how much patience this little girl possesses. After receiving heavy anaesthesia, she doesn't cry; she smiles. She is active and full of life, despite spending her childhood within the walls of clinics. It breaks my heart to think that this fragile stability could collapse at any moment if we stop monitoring her. Asima's parents look at their smiling daughter and continue to believe in the impossible. They hold on to the hope that even her left eye, which the doctors have given up on, may one day see more than just the light of a lamp. But for now, their main dream is that the cancer does not return and that the darkness does not swallow the remaining light.
We express our deep gratitude to everyone who has supported this family in reaching this point. Without your help, Asima might have remained in darkness forever. However, the battle against cancer is a long journey. Please don't abandon Asima now, when she needs monitoring and protection more than ever.
Little Asima is back in Switzerland, and the news from the clinic is heartwarming: her condition is stable. The second month of treatment is progressing well, and the highlight of this trip is that the little girl has taken her first steps on her own, despite all the challenges she has faced
