Sultan Stambekov, head of the oncology department of the National Center for Maternal and Child Health, said that 40% of childhood oncology is leukaemia. The symptoms of this disease are very similar to those of viral infections:
• the child appears lethargic;
• appetite disappears;
• the temperature rises;
• there is weakness, shortness of breath, bleeding gums, and blood from the nose;
• rarely, lymph nodes increase.
Paediatricians begin to treat influenza. Therapy doesn't help, and they prescribe new drugs. But the child does not get better. And only after that they start looking for a problem, not the virus. The situation is critical. There is a delay in the diagnosis and precious time lost. According to Sultan Stambekov, 8-10 cases of cancer are found in Kyrgyzstan per 100,000 children, although by global standards, there should be 10-15. The doctor explained that the number of cases of childhood oncology is constant. Such diseases occur at the genetic level, so their number is the same worldwide. According to Stambekov, the fact that fewer children with oncology get to doctors in our country does not mean that there are few of them in our country, but the rest of the cases still need to be detected.
