This is a devastating blow for everyone, as previous tests had shown that Aliya was in remission and was preparing for a bone marrow transplant (BMT). The donor was supposed to be Aliya's brother, who had travelled to India with their father for this purpose. However, the latest test results were disappointing. Currently, Aliya can only be helped by a robust treatment plan that includes immunotherapy followed by CAR-T therapy. Unfortunately, the cost of this treatment is simply unaffordable for her family.
Aliya's mum, Nurisa, shared, "Aliya and I spent the New Year in the hospital. We were urgently assigned to begin the first course of immunotherapy, during which inotuzumab was administered. At that point, my poor girl's blast cell count had surged to 70%. We chose not to tell her about the relapse because we were afraid of how she would react. Although she doesn’t express it, I can see in her sad eyes that she senses something is wrong.
After the first round of immunotherapy, we were discharged to a hotel, but we had to return to the hospital the very same day due to unbearable pain. Her head was splitting from the severity of the discomfort. At the hospital, she received strong painkillers. She is scheduled for her second course of immunotherapy today or tomorrow. For the past 10 days, she hasn’t eaten anything and can hardly get out of bed. She is suffering from severe pain in her legs and bones. The only support we can provide her with is glucose through an IV drip. Aliya has lost so much weight."
At the end of January, Aliya is set to begin CAT-T therapy. They have arranged with the hospital to pay for the treatment in instalments, but the total cost is enormous, and her mother is tearfully asking for help. Nurisa is trying to remain strong, relying on the knowledge that Aliya needs her support.
They had hoped to celebrate the New Year together at home, filled with good news and optimism for a swift victory over cancer. Unfortunately, Aliya's fate now rests in the hands of others, relying on their compassion. All they have left are memories and the hope for a miracle, along with the kindness of those who can help.
Aliya's mother, Nurisa, shared, "Back home, like everyone else, we would set the table and cook Aliya's favourite dishes. Aliya, like all children, looked forward to the New Year. She was a very active girl and participated in every event at both kindergarten and school. She would sing, dance, and wear her white festive dress. Now, her only wish is to celebrate the New Year at home with her family and to return home as soon as possible. This New Year, we are in the hospital, waiting for help and a miracle. It is very difficult for us right now!"
Let's not forget about Aliya! May she have many more holidays with her loved ones in the future!
