The Society of Children's Oncologists and Haematologists of Kyrgyzstan was established on December 19, 2024, at the ethnocomplex 'Supara'.
The evening began with a presentation by Professor Zakir Karamli, detailing the formation and development of the Department of Paediatric Oncology and Haematology in Kyrgyzstan. Zakir Pashayevich emphasised that establishing the Society of Paediatric Oncologists is a small yet significant step towards advancing paediatric oncology services in the country. He wished the society success in its endeavours.
Aizhan Chynybaeva, the Director of the public association ‘Union of Volunteers of Kyrgyzstan,’ highlighted the importance of engaging with the community for timely childhood cancer diagnosis and committed to enhancing digital outreach.
The Russian Society of Paediatric Oncologists and Haematologists Executive Director Kirill Kirgizov joined the event via a live video link. He emphasised the crucial role of society in organising scientific and educational events.
The evening included speeches from representatives of the World Health Organization and congratulatory remarks from Anna Sonkin, a representative of St. Jude Research Hospital.
After the event, Sultan Stambekov, Head of the Department of Pediatric Oncology at the National Centre for Maternal and Child Health, outlined the goals, plans, and activities of the Society of Pediatric Oncologists and Hematologists of Kyrgyzstan.
Objectives:
The enhancement of diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation for children with cancer. Establishing a platform for professional communication among doctors.
Ensuring access to modern international treatment standards.
Raising public awareness about pediatric oncology.
Plans:
Establishment of national protocols.
Introduction of an electronic record-keeping system.
Participation in international research studies.
Creation of a telemedicine consultation network. Advocacy at the state level.
Fields of activity:
1 Education:
Courses, training and seminars for doctors.
Participation in international conferences.
2. Science and research:
Joint projects with foreign institutions.
Exchange of scientific data.
3. Patient-centred initiatives:
Rehabilitation and psychological care.
Support for patients' families.
4. Collaboration:
Partnership with international organisations (WHO, St.Jude).
Dina Makarenko actively participated in the event.
"I have high hopes that by collaborating with like-minded individuals, we will be more effective in the fight against cancer and will be able to save more children's lives from this terrible, deadly disease. Cancer can be cured, as evidenced by the real stories of the children we support. We sincerely wish for these children to have access to the best opportunities modern medicine can offer in their home country," said of the Sun of Hope Foundation Director.
